Swarm of bees attacks learners at Steelcrest High School

According to information gathered at the school, the bees attacked the learners at the rugby, hockey, and netball fields.

At least 12 learners were transported to the hospital after being stung by a swarm of bees earlier today at around 09:30 at Steelcrest High School.

Many more learners were also stung.

The school was playing sports with Hoërskool Hendrina.

Several ambulances were dispatched to the school to aid the learners.

The Middelburg Observer spoke to the school principal, Piet Bothma, who said all sports activities have been suspended, and the parents of the learners who were stung by the bees will be notified.

He said only 2 learners were seriously injured, and the others were taken to the hospital as a safety precaution.
