Sluice gate opened at Middelburg Dam – Avoid low-lying areas

The opening of a sluice gate at Middelburg Dam will likely add to the widespread flooding of low-lying areas.

A public notice has been issued, alerting members of the public that the Middelburg Dam’s levels are currently recorded above 99%, with an inflow of more than 700mm.

One sluice gate has been opened to alleviate rising water levels.

Residents are urged to avoid low-lying areas and expect an already waterlogged Middelburg to see more overflow of storm water.

Several roads have experienced flooding since 04:30 this morning due to overflowing at the Kruger Dam.
