Residents without power after vandalism on mini sub in Gholfsig

Cable thieves were at work last night in Gholfsig, leaving residents without electricity.

According to DA Ward Councillor, Elsie Vermooten, two mini substations in Cowen Ntuli Street were vandalised within half an hour of each other.

The first incident was reported at 21:11 yesterday evening in Cowen Ntuli, with the second incident being reported at 22:30 on the corner of Cowen Ntuli and Uys Krige Street.

“The vandals used the boards of estate agencies to back around the mini sub, obviously taking cover behind them while they worked.”

Thieves stacked boards around the sub, taking cover behind them while they work.

According to Clr Vermooten, parts of Gholfsig has been without electricity since 21:11 last night.

“The two incidents have been reported to the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, we are now just waiting for restoration.”
