Vehicle catches fire in Kranspoort multi-vehicle accident

The Kranspoort Pass remains closed after a serious accident involving multiple vehicles resulted in a chemical spill earlier today.

According to earlier reports by first responders, six to eight people were injured in the accident, which was reported at 09:30 this morning in the pass on the N11 (Loskop), direction Groblersdal.

The accident is believed to involve a truck as well as a station wagon, which has crashed into a lost load of hazardous chemicals, resulting in the station wagon catching fire.

According to Muhammed Hoosen from BMF Towing, the occupants of the station wagon were rushed to the hospital.

“The road remains closed. The fire is still going, and a lot of hazardous chemicals will have to be cleaned up. For the time being, nobody can get any closer without choking due to the acid.”
