N4 at a standstill after two crashes, five dead

There are two separate serious accidents on the N4 and five people have died.

The incidents happened near Berg-en-Dal on the N4 near Belfast, two kilometres apart on the N4.

Currently, the highway is backed up and the traffic is at a standstill.

The crashes were allegedly due to heavy mist.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison said five people have died in one of the accidents.

One crash involved a light delivery vehicle and a sports utility vehicle.

Emergency services are on the scene.
