Two Emalahleni Mayoral Committee honchos in handcuffs for corruption

Luxury vehicles of top Witbank politicos also confiscated

Two members of the Mayoral Committee of the Emalahleni City Council spent a night behind bars after they were arrested for alleged corruption by the Middelburg Serious Corruption Unit.

The two councillors, aged 54 and 55, were handcuffed during a sting at Witbank Dam, after allegedly receiving a R20 000 gratification payment as part of an alleged R500 000 bribe connected to the alleged extension of a lease agreement.

According to information, the R20 000 paid on Wednesday came on the back of an alleged previous payment of R40 000 in February, alleged to have been shared equally between the suspects.

The R20 000 that was paid on Wednesday has been recovered.  Two luxury vehicles used during the commission of alleged crime were also seized.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court today.
