Motorists baffled by police van stuck in tree on R555

Local police fell tree with marked van

A police van was involved in a bizarre collision on the Stoffberg road moments ago.

Pictures of the scene were posted on the Traffic Alert group.

According to the accompanying message, the driver of the police van lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then left the road and crashed into a tree.

The collision occurred roughly 17km from Middelburg on the R555 at around 14:45.

According to the post, “The van is next to the road, on top of a tree.”

No injuries were reported, and a member in uniform can be seen outside the vehicle, following the collision, with the van firmly lodged in a tree.

Both the van and the tree were badly damaged.

Photos were supplied by a passerby, which tells the story of the police van and the tree, despite their low quality.

Towing services are on scene busy with the removal of the van.
