Just in: Police officer rushed to hospital

The SAPS member was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Emergency services were dispatched to the Middelburg Police Station’s finance office at around 10:30 this morning, after a female officer reportedly lost consciousness.

The SAPS member was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

She was taken to the hospital.

The incident follows a freak accident last Tuesday at the station when a police officer narrowly escaped serious injury after a suspect’s gun accidentally discharged.

The bullet struck the officer in the stomach. Fortunately, the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The firearm was a cocked 9mm pistol confiscated from a housebreaking suspect in Doornkop.
