1 Person dead, another taken to hospital in accident on Dr Mandela Drive

One person sadly passed away and another was taken to hospital in an early morning accident on Dr Mandela Drive.

One person died in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on Dr Mandela Drive this morning, with the other driver taken to hospital.

The incident took place at roughly 07:00 this morning, just past the corner of Hexrivier Street.

The two drivers were the only individuals in the accident, leaving the section of Doctor Mandela Drive between the corners Hexrivier and Hoekberg streets closed.

The Middelburg Observer spoke to the sibling of one of the drivers involved. They said that the driver of the blue car (their brother) was taken to Life Midmed Hospital, and that he complained of back and chest pain.

Both cars sustained heavy damage to the front of the respective vehicles.

The body of the deceased has been transported from the scene, with forensics concluding their on-site investigation.

The road should be cleared and reopened shortly.
