An accident on the N4, near the Middelburg Dam, saw one man lose his life and another driver taken to hospital to deal with their injuries.

The incident involved a bakkie and a light motor vehicle in what appears to have been a head on collision, direction Middelburg.

The Middelburg Observer spoke to the father-in-law of the bakkie driver, who was sent to Life Cosmos Hospital in eMalahleni.

He stated that his son-in-law was on his way home from work when the crash occurred between 18:00 to 18:30.

Having rushed to the scene after his daughter broke the news of the accident, the man said that he is grateful that his son seemed to have only sustained relatively minor injuries, but expressed his sorrow at the event and the loss of life.

The family of the man that died were also at the scene and emotionally conveyed their grief at the tragedy.

One lane was closed, but should now be reopened. Caution is still advised to motorists.
