Fatal accident at hotel construction site

A worker died at the construction site of the Radisson Hotel.

Police confirmed that a man died and another was seriously injured on the site where the new Radisson hotel is being built.

The Observer went to the site yesterday where we found the project manager from construction company MShandukani Holdings, Mr Stephen Mogapi. He confirmed that he had worked closely with the deceased and was saddened by his death.

Mr Mogapi agreed to send a formal media statement by the end of yesterday, but no such statement has been received yet. At the time, he mentioned that they were still busy looking for the next of kin of the deceased, and did not want to provide comment for publication.

It is uncertain how the person died. One theory holds that part of a wall caved in and that some of the debris fell on him. In addition to the deceased, another was injured. No other facts are known at this stage.

  • Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Col Jabu Ndubane has confirmed the incident.
