No to surcharge fees!

Consumer Goods and Services Council of South Africa is urging customers to report businesses charging surcharges.

Residents are urged to report spaza shops that charge extra fees when using debit or credit cards, as well as when customers make cash withdrawals.

The surcharge rule is an additional charge fee or tax added to the cost of a good or service beyond the initially quoted price.

The surcharge rule means that store owners may not add additional fees to the price of goods and services that the customer chooses to purchase with a credit or debit card.

Residents are urged to refuse payment and report any matters to the Consumer Goods and Services Council of South Africa (CGCSA), as it is considered illegal in South Africa.

Contact CGCSA on 011 777 3300 or email info@cgcsa.co.za.
