Kranspoort open after intensive clean-up of chemical spill

Thoroughfare between Middelburg and Groblersdal restored with opening of Kranspoort Pass.

After the intermittent closure of Kranspoort Pass following a collision and serious chemical spill yesterday evening, the pass is finally open.

Motorists are advised that Hazmat crews are still busy with clean-up of the chemical spill, and caution is advised.

The chemical spill was a result of a collision between two trucks at the last arrestor bed in the pass, in Groblersdal’s direction.

The chemical shipment carried by one of the trucks caught fire, resulting in noxious fumes being emitted as well as the fire spreading into the veld.
