Truck on fire in Kranspoort Pass

Noxious fumes fill Kranspoort Pass after truck catches fire in collision.

A truck has caught fire in a heavy motor vehicle collision in Kranspoort Pass (N11) and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

According to information shared by first responders, the collision involves two trucks headed in Groblersdal’s direction, at the last arrestor bed at the bottom of the pass.

It appears that one truck rear-ended the other, resulting in one breaking through the barriers.

The chemical cargo of one truck has caught fire, resulting in noxious fumes filling the pass.

The fire has also resulted in a secondary veldfire.

According to Louwtjie Swart from Louw’s Towing two lanes are open, but motorists are urged to avoid the area due to the harmful smoke and gasses.

It cannot be confirmed whether the pass will be closed to allow scene clean-up, or whether any injuries or fatalities resulted from the collision.
