Kranspoort Pass opened and closed intermittently

The Kranspoort Pass is being opened and closed intermittently due to Hazmat clean-up.

Shortly after the Middelburg Observer received information that Kranspoort Pass was open to traffic, it was said that the pass is again closed to allow the clean-up of hazardous chemicals.

Early morning travelers were anxious to know whether they could traverse the N11 between Middelburg and Groblersdal.

According to information by several motorists and emergency responders, certain lanes of the pass were open this morning to allow thoroughfare, despite the wreckages and chemical spill remaining in the pass after last night’s collision.

No regulation of traffic, however, meant that motorists had to navigate the dangerous area without traffic control.

Hazmat crews have been actively cleaning up since early this morning.

Most recent information confirms that Hazmat crews have closed the pass to allow the removal of the chemicals that spilled in last night’s accident.

However, the pass is being opened and closed intermittently, and motorists should either make use of alternative routes or prepare themselves for a long wait should they insist on using the N11.
