Watch: Similar vehicle in gate motor thefts spotted at MCCI
Much like a smash and grab, thieves are now racing from one location to the next, looting gate motors and eye beams.
The Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) recently fell victim to a suspected syndicate behind the theft of alarm beams, which has plagued Middelburg for some time.
According to video footage provided to the Middelburg Observer, the quick and sly thief sprang out of a silver sedan at 02:30 on Sunday morning to rip off an eye beam situated on the MCCI building.
According to Christo Stemmet from the MCCI, the vehicle seen in the footage resembles the one reportedly behind the theft of gate motors in Gholfsig, leading to the possibility that the same criminals are targeting the two different items.
The Middelburg Observer reported earlier this week on the two thefts in Gholfsig.
According to previous reports, footage received from two residents in AG Visser and Van Wyk Louw Street showed the same suspects behind both incidents.
The two houses were targeted last Tuesday, with footage showing how quickly two suspects alighted from a silver sedan to steal the gate motors.
Both gate motors were stolen within minutes of each other, and one of the suspects could be identified by his white shoes.
According to one of the homeowners, the silver sedan could be an Audi A4.

Three properties in Aerorand were targeted in one night, with suspects making off with no less than five beams at one home.
According to footage obtained in a previous theft, two suspects were seen alighting from a white Chevrolet Spark in broad daylight to steal the eye beams from a business in Middelburg’s CBD.
