Watch: Seven robbers descend on Touch of Gold

Jewellery store owner speaks of fourth armed heist.

Extensive damage was left in the wake of plundering robbers who descended on Touch of Gold at Middelburg Mall last Friday.

According to store owner Seelan Naidoo, the robbery took place at 09:10 in broad daylight, after a staff member opened the first security door for a man believed to be a customer.

The suspect held open the first door for his accomplices, who kicked the second security door off its hinges, giving access to the store.
Five suspects (two of whom were armed) then entered, where they smashed the counters and pilfered their contents.

According to Naidoo, altogether seven suspects were involved, with five plundering the store while two remained on watch outside.

One of the store employees then pressed the panic alarm, which dispatched Mid Alarms and activated the smoke machines.
The robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery and made their getaway in a white Toyota Starlet.

Naidoo confirmed that the incident is the fourth jewellery heist to take place at his store, with the previous robbery taking place in 2019.

“A lot of police have since been at the store, and the investigating officer will also be coming to see me,” Naidoo said.

• No arrests have been made, and Lt. Col. Jabu Ndubane, provincial media spokesperson for the SAPS, confirmed that the provincial office has been informed of the incident.
