White crosses in President Donald Trump’s White House make headlines

Today, 22 years ago, Lappies became part of farm murder statistics.

Probably the most famous white crosses in the world!

Crosses that made headlines in the White House.

Crosses that made President Cyril Ramaphosa ask with wide eyes: “I would like to know where this is.”

President Donald Trump shocked the world and South Africa with a video where an incendiary EFF leader, Julius Malema, chants: “Kill the boer, kill the farmer…”

Later in the video, a procession with hundreds of vehicles drives to plant white crosses for farm victims.
For weeks afterwards, the world buzzed about the white cross monument along the N1 on the way to Polokwane.

On October 3, vehicles, tractors and poachers will gather at the Caltex Starstop along the N1 at Ysterberg, between Polokwane and Mokopane.

On October 4, crosses will be planted at the monument again.
The organisers said, “It has taken many years to make the world aware of farm murders in South Africa. It is now time to confirm this reality.”

The Middelburg Observer’s coverage on the murder of Lappies Labuschagne.

Today is September 10, exactly 22 years ago, the beloved Lappies Labuschagne (65) died in a farm attack on Tonteldoos.

This is how the Middelburg Observer reported on Lappies Labuschagne’s murder.

His daughter, Magda-Marie Brits, said they have already planted two crosses at the monument. The second one was by his grandsons, Johann and Pieter Brits, his grandfather’s namesake.

Lappies, as he was known, was shot dead in cold blood for R191.20.
One of his attackers, Herold Mabuso, was sentenced to 66 years in prison.

His three children, Ezanne Boardman, Lappies Labuschagne (junior) and Magda-Marie Brits, have since been fighting a fierce battle to keep his three attackers behind bars, after they applied for parole.

Ezanne previously told how loved her father was in the Tonteldoos community, and even the tribal chief in the area handed in letters during the trial to say what an incredible man her father was.
“He was a pillar and advisor in the community. Our children and grandchildren’s lives were ruined. My mother, Bettie, mourned to her death after his murder.”

The 3 000 white crosses that have been planted along the N1 since June 16, 2004, are a disgusting testimony to farm murders… but also to the criminal violence of South Africa.
