Middelburg Observer enjoyed a special visit from Lucky and Lehlohonolo
Football legends visit the local paper.
The Middelburg Observer was the ‘Lucky’ host of two South African football legends, as well as a special showcasing of the MTN8 trophy on Tuesday.
Bystanders were quick to scramble for a photo alongside Lucky Lekgwathi and Lehlohonolo Majoro on the Middelburg Observer’s doorstep.
The courtesy is now an almost annual tradition organised by MTN.
Lucky, Lehlohonolo, the beautiful MTN8 trophy, and representatives of MTN made the detour on their way to the MTN8 finals, which will be taking place in Mbombela.
Lucky is a renowned retired South African football defender. He is popular for his contribution to the Orlando Pirates team. In 2005, he represented South Africa during the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
His football career includes the Real Rovers and Ria Stars, before being called up to play for the national team.
Wearing the number 14, Lucky then played 14 caps between 2002 and 2005.
Lehlohonolo is a known forward who played in several Premier Soccer League sides, as well as Bafana Bafana. He made his debut in a Vodacom Challenge with a 1–0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Lehlohonolo went on to be a top goal scorer for the Kaizer Chiefs, finally retiring from the AmaZulu in 2023 with 10 goals scored during his tenure.
