Has rain delayed the ‘shutdown’, again?

Another day has come, and the expected ‘shutdown’ has not materialised.

The shutdown was rescheduled yesterday for today; however, residents travelling from Mhluzi and Rockdale said there were no signs of protest action.

During the weekend, a viral poster made rounds on social media, calling for a ‘Total Shutdown’ on November 24.

Organisers said that the march was a result of high municipal rates, the removal of foreign nationals, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation, GBV concerns, and unemployment.

Yesterday, a voice message, allegedly from a convenor of the strike, was forwarded to community groups saying the march would be rescheduled to Tuesday.

• The municipality told the Middelburg Observer that it rejected the application for a public gathering due to non-compliance with the Regulation of Gatherings Act.
