Christmas babies bring joy to King Nyabela Hospital in Middelburg
While many Middelburg families gathered around Christmas trees and tables of festive feasts on Christmas Day, new life was being welcomed at King Nyabela Hospital, where two babies were born today.
The special occasion was made even more memorable when the Executive Mayor of Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Mhlonishwa Masilela, visited the hospital to congratulate the proud mothers and welcome the Christmas babies, a little baby girl and baby boy, in person.
Dressed in festive spirit, the Mayor joined hospital staff and families in celebrating the arrivals, describing the moment as a reminder of why quality healthcare and compassionate service delivery matter most.
Mayor Masilela praised the dedication of the maternity ward staff, singling out Dr Lekalakala, Dr Ntuli and Matron Tsoka for their commitment to patient care, even on a public holiday.
“What I witnessed here today is service delivery at its best,” said Mayor Masilela. “We are proud of the work being done at this hospital and we will continue to prioritize quality services for our residents.”

During his visit, the Mayor also encouraged parents and communities to work together to protect and guide children, stressing the importance of addressing challenges such as teenage pregnancy to secure a better future for the next generation.
To mark the special day, the Executive Mayor presented gifts to the mothers who gave birth to a little girl and a baby boy on Christmas Day, while hospital staff added to the celebration by donating baby clothes and essentials.
The Christmas Day visit to King Nyabela Hospital served as a heartwarming reminder that even on the busiest days, compassion, care and new beginnings remain at the heart of Middelburg’s community.
The community is delighted to welcome Middelburg’s brand new Christmas babies.
