Protect Middelburg’s pets: Fireworks fade, fear remains

As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Middelburg SPCA urges residents to think twice before lighting fireworks, as countless pets face a night of fear, panic, and distress.

For most people, New Year’s Eve is a celebration.
For animals, it is often a night of terror.

Sudden explosions, flashing lights, and relentless noise leave pets trembling, hiding, or desperately trying to escape. Every year, animals go missing, are injured, or suffer lasting trauma – all for fireworks that last only minutes.

The SPCA is appealing to the Middelburg community to choose compassion over noise.

– Keep pets indoors and secure
– Close windows and curtains
– Play music or the TV to soften firework sounds

The SPCA will be open tomorrow from 08:30 to 11:00 to help reunite lost pets with their families.

This New Year’s Eve, think twice. Let kindness be the loudest echo heard.

Fireworks are temporary. The fear they cause, is nót.
