Athletes in action at Middelburg Primary School’s interhouse

Middelburg Primary School launched its 2026 athletics season with two well-organised interhouse athletics events that highlighted participation, teamwork and school spirit across all age groups.

The Grade 1–3 Interhouse Athletics took place on January 16, from 09:00 to 11:00, allowing the school’s youngest learners to participate in structured athletics in a supportive environment. Junior athletes competed in track events, including the 60m and 80m sprints, as well as 400m and 600m races, with boys and girls competing separately in the u/7, u/8 and u/9 age groups. The emphasis remained on participation, enjoyment, and the development of basic athletic skills.

The main Interhouse Athletics Meeting followed on January 19, featuring a full programme of track and field events. Senior learners competed in hurdles, sprints, 1 200m and 1 500m races, along with field events such as the long jump, high jump, and shot put. Learners proudly represented their houses, Oribi, Sable, Impala and Kudu during the events, with teachers, officials, and volunteers overseeing the smooth running of the day. Parents and learners lined the field, offering enthusiastic support throughout the programme.

The interhouse athletics events not only showcased sporting talent but also reinforced the key values at MPS.
