Steve Tshwete Municipality dismisses poisoned water claims

The municipality confirms there is no poisoning of the water supply, urging residents to rely on official communication channels.

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality has dismissed claims circulating on social media that potable water in one of its reservoir tanks has been poisoned.

The municipality said it is aware of a voice note being shared across various platforms alleging that the water supply had been contaminated. However, it confirmed that no such incident has been recorded.

In a statement, the municipality reassured residents that the water supply remains safe and that there is no evidence to support the allegations.

The municipality added that should any incident occur that could negatively affect communities, residents would be notified through its official communication channels, including its website and verified social media platforms.

Residents have been urged to rely on official municipal communication and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
