Sikhulile Menzi Maduna was found guilty of murdering Lebo Magagula after the court ruled that he intentionally drove into Magagula for allegedly stealing his phone.
According to the evidence presented during the trial, Maduna rammed his employer’s truck into Magagula in town, in an act described by the court as revenge-fuelled by his belief that Magagula stole his cellphone the previous day.
Although Maduna claimed the collision was accidental, the court rejected his version, citing inconsistencies with his statement against the evidence presented.
According to the authorities, Magagula was flung metres from the point of collision, causing damage to the truck’s left side mirror and windshield.
