Father offers R5 000 reward after thieves steal son’s motorbikes in early hours

A father is appealing to the community for help after two motorbikes were stolen from their Kanonkop home during the early hours today.

A R5 000 reward is being offered for information that could lead to the recovery of two stolen motorbikes.

Hein Venter confirmed that he will pay the reward if the bikes can be recovered. “It was my son’s birthday gift when he turned 16. We have to try and get it back,” he said.

The Middelburg Observer reported earlier that the two motorbikes were stolen during the early hours today from the family’s home in Oribi Street, Kanonkop.

Dogs kept barking as thieves made off with motorbikes

According to Hein, they were awakened shortly before 01:00 by their dogs barking persistently. When they went outside to investigate, they initially saw nothing unusual.

However, when the dogs started barking strangely again around 01:10, they went outside once more and discovered that the front palisade gate had been forced open.

The suspects had already fled.

The thieves reportedly forced the gate open, walked to the back of the property and used bolt cutters to cut the chains and locks securing the motorbikes before pushing them away.

The stolen bikes include an orange 125cc KTM off-road motorbike, valued at about R20 000, and a red and silver 150cc GSX Suzuki with registration KCM840MP, worth about R33 000.

Possible sighting in Mhluzi

Meanwhile, a resident from Mhluzi, who asked to remain anonymous, came forward earlier tonight with possible information.

He said his wife became ill at around 01:00, and he asked his brother to take them to hospital. When they returned later, they noticed six men pushing two motorbikes at the outskirts of Avalon in Mhluzi.

Venter is appealing to residents in that area who may know where the suspects are hiding the bikes, to come forward.

Anyone with information that could help recover the motorbikes is urged to contact Hein on 076 830 1412.
