WATCH: Food, water and vendor-chips tested by Health Department at Ekwazini Secondary
40 Learners being monitored after It Krunchy Nax scare.
Ekwazini Secondary School in Mhluzi says only three learners initially fell ill with severe stomach cramps after eating It Krunchy Nax bought from a local vendor outside the school premises earlier today.
After the ambulance left, three more learners started complaining of cramps.
Health authorities, however, advised the school to take all learners who ate the snack to hospital for assessment and monitoring.
@middelburgobserver Parents being updated on the serious health scare at Ewazini Secondary School in Mhluzi where 40 learners fell ill after eating It Krunchy Nax bought from a local vendor. Health inspectors have already taken samples of the popular snack for testing. Water and National School Nutrition Programme food samples were also taken for testing.
A total of 40 learners were then transported to hospital for observation.
All affected learners are said to be stable and recuperating.
Health inspectors have already taken samples of the It Krunchy Nax, National School Nutrition Programme food at the school, as well as water sources, for contamination testing.
Results will be released once testing has been completed.
Video footage of parents being updated at the school has been obtained.
Parents have now requested that tests be conducted on products from vendors frequently visited by the children.
