Columbus manager killed in EC motorcycle crash

He was the Business Unit Manager for Raw Materials and the Steel Plant at Columbus.

Columbus Stainless announced the devastating death of Mr Bernard Botha, the Business Unit Manager for Raw Materials and the Steel Plant. Botha passed away unexpectedly last Friday, May 29, following a tragic motorcycle accident in the Eastern Cape.

This sudden loss has left the entire Columbus Stainless community in shock and deep mourning
Bernard’s commitment to Columbus Stainless spanned over 27 years, beginning in January 1999.
He was a highly respected and deeply valued member of the management team, and his dedication extended well beyond his leadership across the vital Raw Materials and Steel Plant units.

Bernard served as a mentor and source of inspiration to countless colleagues.
“His professional expertise and instrumental contributions – from the Steel Plant’s robust performance to the pioneering research and development of new products – have left an indelible and enduring mark on Columbus,” Columbus Corporate Affairs Manager Zandile Mashaba said in a statement.

“We extend our deepest, most heartfelt sympathy and support to Bernard’s wife, Pauline, their two children, Christian and Carli, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him,” Mashaba added. “His memory will forever be cherished by the Columbus Stainless family.”
The family declined further comment.
