Five feared dead in R542 crash near Komati Power Station
Several people injured and five feared dead after an accident just before 11:00 today on the R542, outside Middelburg.
Five people are feared dead and several others seriously injured following a head-on collision on the R542 between Blinkpan and Komati this morning.

According to preliminary information from the scene, a Delta 1 Search and Rescue Volkswagen Amarok and a Mahindra bakkie were involved in the crash at around 10:30 today (June 5).
According to Wesley Brits of All City Towing and Recovery, who responded to the severe crash, the accident appeared to have been head-on, causing multiple life-threatening injuries, which paramedics are still assisting.
He confirmed that the scene of the horrific accident is still being cleared by responders.

It is understood that the Amarok was carrying one occupant, while the Mahindra had several occupants, including passengers travelling on the back of the vehicle.
Emergency services, including paramedics, firefighters, police, Delta 1 Search and Rescue and towing services, responded to the scene.
Images from the scene show extensive damage to both vehicles, with debris scattered across the road.
Traffic was diverted while emergency personnel attended to the injured and secured the area.
Information available at the time of publication indicates that five people are believed to have died and several others sustained serious to life-threatening injuries.

The injured passengers are still being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The exact number of fatalities and injuries has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
