March to March – Avoid Middelburg CBD tomorrow

March to March marching ahead after Emelahleni protest last week.

A voice note is circulating on local CPF groups regarding the March to March protest planned for Middelburg tomorrow.

According to the message, the march for immigration reform will proceed as scheduled.

SAPS has confirmed that an application for the march was received and approved.

The Public Order Policing Unit will be deployed to maintain order while the march moves through the CBD.

A similar march took place in Emalahleni last week.

Participants will gather at 08:00 at Van Blerk Square in Walter Sisulu Street.

From there, the march will proceed along Bhime Damane Street, moving against oncoming traffic towards Irak.

From Irak, participants will continue along SADC Street, again against oncoming traffic, to John Magagula Street. The march will then proceed along John Magagula Street into Cowen Ntuli Street towards Eastdene.

Traffic officials and police will be out in full force during the march to ensure public safety.

Motorists are advised to avoid the CBD until the crowd has dispersed.

It is unclear at this stage how many people will participate in the local protest, as information about the event began circulating on local WhatsApp groups last week.

Many residents, however, paid little attention to the notice, as neither the municipality nor SAPS could confirm until today that the march would proceed.

The march will go ahead.
