Steelcrest High School officially reached the semi-finals of the Virseker Noordvaal Group Four Rugby Cup on August 1.

The Middelburg-based school qualified for the prestigious regional tournament after dominating the Mpumalanga Middle Schools Rugby finals at Hoërskool Patriot in eMalahleni.

Steelcrest fielded teams in all four divisions, U14, U15, U16, and the first team, and won every match.

Steelcrest coach Zwelakhe Ntombela confirmed that no other school in their league or region has ever achieved a clean sweep across all four divisions.

The Virseker Noordvaal competition brings together top schoolboy rugby teams from Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and Gauteng.

While Steelcrest was knocked out in the semi-final stage in previous years, Ntombela is confident that all four teams have a strong chance to take home the trophy this season.

Steelcrest’s U15 and U16 squads qualified directly for the Noordvaal semi-finals after rival teams withdrew from the tournament.

The momentum kept building last Saturday when Steelcrest’s first team secured a decisive 49–12 home win against Gauteng’s Hoërskool Die Anker, marking their first-ever victory against the side.

Tomorrow (August 8), the Steelcrest teams will head into their semi-final fixtures across different locations; the U14 and U16 teams will face Hoërskool Warmbad away in Limpopo.

While the first team will be playing against Hoërskool Eric Louw in Limpopo as well, the U15s will host Reddam on the Steelcrest High School A-field at 10:00.
