Middelburg police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of an unidentified man’s body along the Hendrina road on September 21.

According to Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Mdluli, police were dispatched to the scene after receiving an urgent call.

She said upon arrival, police joined emergency service personnel from an ER24 ambulance.

“Authorities found the body of a man, estimated to be around 30 years old, lying next to the road. Initial observations revealed multiple severe injuries, including facial swelling and heavy bleeding around the head,” Mdluli said.

“The victim was wearing a blue T-shirt and brown trousers but had no shoes.”

Appeal for identification

The deceased was transferred to Middelburg Pathology Services.

“The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and police are appealing to the public for help in identifying him and tracing his family. Members of the community are urged to assist. Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Middelburg Police Station.”
