Steve Tshwete Local Municipality Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela has extended warm wishes to all residents, urging the local community to celebrate the diverse cultures that bind the nation together.

According to Masilela, this year’s celebrations are centred around the official theme ‘Celebrating our living heritage: Strengthening the ties that bind us’.

Masilela said that cultural traditions, language, music, food, and shared stories play an important role in shaping local identity.

​“As we commemorate Heritage Month and Heritage Day, we celebrate the rich cultures, languages, traditions, music, food and stories that shape who we are,” he said.

“Our diversity is our strength, and our heritage connects generations and strengthens our communities. Let us embrace and respect one another’s culture, teach our children to value their heritage, and continue building a municipality founded on unity, dignity, respect and social cohesion.”

Masilela emphasised that diversity serves as a core foundation for strength, urging parents and community members to actively pass these values on to younger generations.
