Sevens tournament held on a rugby field that isn’t really a rugby field
Hard tackles, passion, and enthusiasm – the likes of which are rarely seen on a rugby field – were the order of the day at yesterday’s rugby sevens event in Mhluzi.
Admittedly, it isn’t actually a rugby field; it’s a rock-hard grass field, marked out with cones and with no rugby goalposts.
There were no conversion kicks after tries were scored, but the energy on and off the field was impossible to ignore.

Girls show their tackling power
The boys’ final between Zikhuphule Primary School and Makhathini Primary School was decided only after extra time. The home team, Zikhuphule, scored a breakaway try to win 10–5.
The girls’ final was also a hard-fought affair, with Makhathini claiming a 5–0 victory.
Other participating schools included Eastdene Combined School and Thusanang, Elusindisweni, and Manyano primary schools.
