Woof! Free rabies jabs for your pooches and fluffballs

With veterinary staff unable to make house calls or hand out vials for home use, pet owners can take their animals to seven stop-and-go stations.

The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs is offering free rabies jabs for dogs, cats and ferrets at various locations starting on October 26.

Rabies is a state-controlled disease; therefore, pet owners cannot administer the vaccine themselves.

Local veterinary technician James Erasmus said that unfortunately, the department does not do house calls.

For this reason, the Nkangala campaign has been rolled out to seven local spots where pet owners can stop-and-go.
