Dennesig water crisis deepens as taps run dry
While municipal leaders promise new reservoirs and community meetings, electrical hazards and burst pipes leave households struggling in the heat.
The frustration of Dennesig residents is reaching a boiling point, and they are directing it at Clr Johann Dyason.
Parts of the residential area have been without water for two days, and as of this morning, the section south of Steve Biko Street is completely without a single drop of water. The heatwave is pushing residents to their limit.
Dyason, sounding despondent, mentioned that he is receiving vitriolic complaints, even though he is doing his utmost to resolve the water issue.
Mayoral intervention and reservoir plans
He recently held a lengthy meeting with Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela and his officials, and the mayor has committed to attend a meeting in Dennesig within the next two weeks.

Dyason notes that these water problems have persisted for the past four years, with no solution in sight. Measures will now be taken to ensure that the reservoirs remain 80% full at all times. The mayor also mentioned that a new reservoir is being planned.
Electrical cables stall burst pipe repairs
Workers in Verkenner Street are waiting for the electrical department before they can continue working on the burst pipe.
According to the workers, there are too many electrical cables in the way to continue digging to repair the leak.
No official confirmation was received regarding when the water will be restored.
The Observer was on the scene and informed Dyason of the situation; he undertook to ensure that the electrical department assists.
Clr Elsie Vermooten reported in a message that Eskom cables in the open field behind Totius Street had caught fire. “Please stay away from the cables and the area, even if the fire appears to be out. Do not approach any fallen or damaged cables, as they may still be dangerous.”
