Dennilton on high alert: SAPS searches for armed men after string of robberies
The police in Dennilton are searching for robbers who have terrorised the Dennilton area in a series of robberies.
SAPS Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called on the police in Dennilton to track down suspects responsible for a series of robberies which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in various parts of the area.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba indicated three separate incidents of robberies reportedly took place in the area between 00:30 and 02:45 that morning.
Ledwaba said during the first robbery, a 33-year-old man was asleep in Vezinyawo Village when he heard a knock on the window, and allegedly the voice of his brother asking him to quickly open the door.
When the man opened the door, his brother wasn’t there, “Suddenly, three unknown men armed with firearms emerged and created the impression they were looking for the man’s brother. The trio allegedly forced him back into the house, where his sister was. They ransacked the house and stole three cellphones. The men apparently spoke Sepedi and fled on foot,” Ledwaba explained.
In the second incident, it is alleged that three armed men forced entry into a 38-year-old man’s house while he was asleep in Mpheleng Village, Ntswelemotse Section.
“The suspects took a Samsung cellphone and forcefully transferred an undisclosed amount of money. They also stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the house before taking the keys of a Toyota GD-6 bakkie and a Toyota Corolla. They immediately fled the scene,” Ledwaba added.
A 47-year-old woman in the same village who was preparing to go to work was also robbed that morning at about 02:45.
She allegedly spotted unknown individuals at her gate while she went outside to fetch water. She rushed back inside and locked the door.
The men followed her and allegedly kicked the door open, and two armed men forced entry into her house.
“The woman was robbed of three cellphones. The suspects fired shots outside the house before they fled the scene on foot,” Ledwaba said.
He confirmed that SAPS Dennilton has launched a massive manhunt for the suspects, and anyone with information that can assist the police is requested to contact the investigating officer, Constable Simon Mahlangu, on 076 588 6388, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, their nearest police station, or use the My SAPS App.
