Brand new car for top student
Described as the pride of the province, top achiever Sumaiya Jeewa, was once again celebrated for her outstanding matric results in a ceremony attended by various dignitaries.
The Middelburg Muslim School, on Wednesday, played host to the MEC for Education, Mrs Reginah Mhaule and Executive Mayor Mr Mike Masina.
The occasion was the official handover of the car won by the top matriculant in Mpumalanga. Lauding Jeewa as an inspiration, Mrs Mhaule praised not only her achievements but also the support and performance of her school.
The school, she said, was a shining example of excellence and a source of pride to the province. The MEC also praised the Nkangala district for its 81.67% pass rate and the recent prize, the ZK Matthews award that was given to the Steve Tshwete Municipality.
Jeewa, a winner of the SAICA accounting olympiad, adds yet another prestigious accolade to her collection.
The Toyota Aygo, sponsored by Imperial Toyota, is the reward for achieving the highest marks in matric for Mpumalanga and marks the cherry on the cake for the top achiever, Mr Desmond Bosch, from Imperial Toyota, expressed his best wishes and support to Jeewa.
Toyota sponsors a car every year to the top matriculant and has come to be one of the most notable prizes earned.
During her quick speech and through the interview she gave for the prize-giving ceremony, she emphasized that hard work and consistency was the key to her success.
Her proud family spoke of her diligence and compassion in a pre-recorded interview. She is due to start studies at the University of Pretoria in dentistry.
