Siyaya earns call-up to Gilbert Youth Squad

Menzi Siyaya has been selected for the prestigious Gilbert Youth Squad, marking another milestone in the young loose forward’s rapidly rising rugby career.

The Gilbert Youth Squad, an initiative by Gilbert Rugby South Africa, is a talent identification and development programme aimed at recognizing and supporting emerging South African rugby players.

The programme focuses on school and provincial standouts who demonstrate exceptional work ethic, consistency, and long-term potential.

Menzi Siyaya, a learner at Middelburg High School and part of the Pumas rugby system, has already proven his credentials on a national platform.

He represented his province at the 2025 Grant Khomo U/16 Week, where his performances under pressure drew attention.

Throughout the tournament, Siyaya impressed with his relentless work rate, physical presence at the breakdown and defensive intensity – attributes that have now earned him recognition at the national development level.

His inclusion in the Gilbert Youth Squad not only acknowledges his performances to date, but also places him among a select group of young players identified as future prospects in South African rugby.

Local rugby supporters will be watching closely as Siyaya continues to develop, with the backing of a programme designed to nurture the country’s next generation of stars.
