Area Guide: Middelburg
Often referred to as the “Stainless steel capital of South Africa,” Middelburg drew hundreds of expatriates and their families in the 60s and 70s, so what did those brave pioneers build in Mpumalanga? Did they leave a legacy and booming town for the following generations?

It was in the 1960s and 1970s that Middelburg saw an influx of British and European immigrants looking to find a better life in Africa, and what they found was almost Utopian. This was partly due to the natural resources available, but also industry paying skilled workers very well, while offering free housing and education. With that boom now over, where has it left Middelburg?
Middelburg might not be as popular a tourist destination as its location would have you believe, especially when you consider the proximity to the Kruger National Park. There are numerous other attractions that include hiking trails, the Middleburg Dam, the Ndebele Tourism Village and many events hosted at the Taljaard Park Stadium.
When it comes to property for sale in Middelburg, you’ll find a wide range of properties and property types to choose from. Commercial properties are on the increase in the town and so are residential properties to cater for the growing community.
Middleburg and its surrounds are growing in terms of population according to recent reports. Population growth goes hand-in-hand with the need for development and infrastructure. The local Municipality have approved more than 6000 building plans in the last five years, and development in both residential and commercial sectors of the market are on the increase.
While Middelburg might not be the biggest or busiest town in Mpumalanga, it’s definitely growing and with that growth comes a number of opportunities and more things to see and do. Whether it’s looking for properties, spotting wildlife, or simply enjoying the great outdoors.
