Pet competition winners revealed

MIDRAND - The Society for Animals In Distress has chosen winners for their annual pet photo competition.

The competition, which closed on 31 May, gave donors, supporters and animal lovers in general, the opportunity to submit photographs of their pets, with the chance of featuring in the society’s annual calendar.

Two photos have also been chosen to feature on this year’s Christmas cards. Overall winner Samuel, owned by Amanda Pybus, will be on the cover of the organisation’s 2014 calendar.

In the action category the winners were: CarolynChelchinskey’s Teddy, Bernie, Zoe & Moxie, Amanda Pybus’ Samuel, Avrel Webbstock’s Wazuri and Roberta Donovan’s Tobey.

Taking home the title in the Christmas category were Casey, owned by Helen Du Plessis, Joshua, owned by Diane Coutts and Yogi, owned by Candice Adendorff.

The ‘Funny’ category was won by Queen Cleopatra owned by Kirsten Smythe, Bernie, Teddy and “Beach Bud” owned by Carolyn Chelchinskey, Benji owned by Kerri McDonald and Brody owned by Margit Wambach.

According to the society’s Carmen Douglas-Kilfoil, all winners had been notified. She said, “We are working excitedly towards creating our 2014 calendar and Christmas cards which we will be utilising as another fundraising initiative to sell these as part of our 2013 Christmas gift catalogue.”

“Advertising for this year’s competition was greatly supported by Caxton Newspapers, with details on how to enter the competition printed in both the Midrand Reporter as well as shared with Caxton BBM groups and published online for the month of May.

The awareness created through these advertisements helped us in increasing awareness and support for our cause,” added Douglas-Kilfoil.
