200K worth of drugs seized in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT - An intelligence-driven operation seized drugs to the street value of R200 000 in Diepsloot on the afternoon of 15 October.

Diepsloot police Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said effective intelligence gathering led to the seizure of capsules, tablets and dust believed to be mandrax, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine (tik) and methcathinone (cat) in Diepsloot on the afternoon of 15 October. Their street value is estimated at about R200 000.

Mavimbela  said a 36-year-old man, also found in possession of American and European currency, was taken into custody for the alleged possession of drugs.

Mavimbela said the recovery of these drugs is a result of information received through the local crime intelligence network. After an assessment was made on the location where the drugs were said to be kept, the local police deployed the resources of both the West Rand and Vaal K-9 Units. The police executed a cordon-and-search operation and recovered the drugs at a plot in Diepsloot.

Mavimbela said the suspect will be charged with possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
