Midrand police host open day

MIDRAND - Midrand police had an open day where members of the public could obtain crime-related information.

Midrand police social crime prevention co-ordinator Constable Nanty Belebesi said, “It is important for the public to be informed on how to stay safe when they find themselves face-to-face with different crimes such as armed robberies and housebreaking cases.”

She added that they also have a colouring book and other pamphlets to help children understand that police are there to help them when they are victims of crime. Other informative pamphlets featured information on how to prevent car jamming, burglaries in residential areas, smash and grabs and information on domestic violence.

Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley said top crimes trends in Midrand and Gauteng include contact crimes, theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles. He said, “There are also a lot of assault cases. People should learn to talk about issues and negotiate instead of fighting physically all the time.”
