EMS puts out a fire in Halfway Gardens complex
HALFWAY HOUSE - Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded to a fire at Midrand Gardens complex after being notified by a neighbour of the burning unit.
Nishen Soorinarayadu, resident, trustee and neighbour said, “The fire started in the afternoon. We noticed smoke coming from the house and called the fire department. While we waited we thought of calling Ria Sebetsa Security as they are always in the area. The security company arrived shortly.”
Soorinarayadu added that his neighbour, who recently moved in, was away.
Ria Sebetsa Security managing director, Danny Maduray, said the company’s response unit went to the complex and broke a window which was already cracked by the fire to check if anyone was trapped inside. Fortunately, no one was.
“EMS responded quickly and hosed the unit down. Thanks to everyone who stepped in to assist,” said Maduray.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed, “An electrical fault started the fire. A TV, couch and TV stand were among things that were severely damaged in the fire.” He urged residents to make sure that electrical appliances and plugs were switched off before leaving their homes.
The unit’s owner could not be reached for comment as a contact number was not available.
