Noordwyk resident reported for running a panel beating workshop
NOORDWYK - A Noordwyk resident has laid a complaint with the City of Johannesburg's Development Planning Law Enforcement department against another resident who is running a panel beating workshop from a residential property.
The man, whose name has been withheld, approached Midrand Reporter to say he is unhappy with how the City handled the issue. “I submitted a complaint form and made contact with the department via e-mails. My e-mails were responded to with the promise that the property owner would be served with a letter of demand by a Sheriff of the Court for illegal use of land, but the business is still in operation seven months later.”
He revealed that the department was meant to follow up on the issue on 4 March and provide feedback, however, this had not yet been done, and in the meantime, the business remains after the owner was given the first notice by the City. The noise and nuisance this business brings is annoying, he said.
He also stated that the department confirmed that this was against the zoning rights for the property and constituted illegal use of land. He asked what the use was in reporting such matters if nothing gets done about it?
Midrand Reporter sent queries to the City on the issue, but three weeks later no response had been received. However, in a previous e-mail addressed to the complainant on 25 May, a City representative mentioned that such matters did take time. The e-mail said, “… this matter has been referred to council attorneys to institute legal action against the owner for non-compliance to the City’s bylaws, therefore, we are guided by the City’s legal proceedings which we have to follow in terms of all our cases, of which do take time until the actual contravention is terminated.”
