Accused abandons his bail application

ALEXANDRA – Midrand man who is charged for the murder of his sister's friend has abandoned his bail application.

 


A man who has been accused of murdering his sister’s friend at his apartment in Halfway Gardens appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 13 June to where he was set to apply for bail, however, the application was abandoned.

The accused was arrested on 4 May as reported in the Midrand Reporter, article Woman’s body disposed of in an unconventional manner [Week ending 24 May] after he allegedly murdered his sister’s friend and apparently attempted to use app-based taxi services to dispose of a woman’s body hidden in a garbage bin.

The victim’s body was discovered near bushes in the area.

At the accused’s previous court appearance on 31 May, his lawyer had asked to be given more time to conduct further investigations before applying for bail.

His lawyer, however, withdrew the bail application on the 13th of June and the matter was taken to Regional Court where he first appeared for his case.

The accused’s case may be escalated to the High Court following the decision to abandon bail.

The case has been postponed to 27 June after his lawyer asked for more time to investigate the case.

The accused is still in police custody.
