A 22-year-old man was arrested on 9 November at his home in Ivory Park Ext 6 after he was found in possession of a computer which was identified as belonging to a local primary school.
According to Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane, police went to the man’s house at about 6am following information received from another suspect who had been caught on the premises of Bonwelong Primary School while stealing groceries from one of the school rooms.
“At the time the latter was caught, it was found that he had already packed some of the items in a sack he brought with… he told the police that he was not operating alone and he voluntarily [led police [to] an address where one of his accomplices lived which led to the discovery of the computer.
“The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of the suspected stolen property. The computer was identified as one of the computers belonging to Bonwelong Primary School by the school security officers.”
Matimulane added that the school had just suffered a huge blow recently when about 40 computers were stolen from its premises.
“Investigations that are expected to follow shortly will determine if the two suspects are in any way connected to that burglary or any other crimes for that matter,” he added.
Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, welcomed the arrests and added that he was positive that some of the stolen items will be recovered as a result of the ensuing investigation.
