Sector Crime Forum 3 is ready to create a safer Midrand

MIDRAND – Sector Crime Forum 3 members share their five-year plan to reduce crime in their area.

Midrand’s Sector Crime Forum 3 held a public meeting at the Noordwyk Public Park to address issues of crime in the area.

They also shared their five-year plan to combat crime in the sector at the meeting on 30 November.

According to the sector spokesperson Thalethu Mandleni, Sector 3 members are proud to declare that the community is pleased with the progress that has been made by the Sector Crime Forum (SCF) 3 to date.

“Midrand SCF 3 appreciates the work done by the previous committee and strives to continue such good work with all relevant structures as well as the sector security companies on board.”

Mandleni added that the forum was aware of the attacks on shopping centres and the high number of property-related crimes in the suburbs of Noordwyk and Blue Hills. “As such, festive operation plans are already underway to significantly reduce elements of criminality in our sector.

“The SCF 3 five-year plan will be launched in the year 2020,” said Mandleni.

There are numerous items that will be included in the five-year plan.

The forum will provide support to the Blue Hills Extension gate structure as a means to combat crime.

Mandleni added that the Noordwyk Street Closure Petition is underway to legalise the existing street closures. This petition includes the future placement of boom gates on the Noordwyk main roads to ensure minimal exit points.

Mandleni also said they will conduct local school visits with the Victim Empowerment Centre to empower children and raise awareness on the dangers they may face as well as places or people of contact to ensure a safer community for them.

There will also be updates on the Plantation Road and Olifantsfontein Road safety concern conversations with the ward councillor.

Mandleni concluded that forum will maintain its own detailed crime statistics for oversight work and encourages interested persons, and community members to participate in all area-focused strategic meetings that will be held in all the suburbs in their sector.

Community members are also encouraged to volunteer and donate funds towards the safety of their community. “Communication strategies have been rolled out and the SCF 3 is prepared to reach out to all our residents,” she concluded.
