E-hailing taxi driver is hijacked

RABIE RIDGE – An electronic hailing taxi driver was hijacked after following a request in Klipfontein View before being left stranded near the Kloorkop dumping site on 20 April.


An e-hailing taxi driver was allegedly hijacked after he received a request for a trip in Klipfontein View on 20 April.

Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Jacob Nlhongo said at about 8pm, the complainant claimed that while he was on duty he received a request from Klipfontein View.

Upon proceeding to Oliver Tambo Street in Klipfontein View, the driver found two men waiting for him.

“One male jumped inside the car, pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him. The other suspect pulled him out of the vehicle, took him to the back seat and tied both his hands and legs with cable ties,” he said.

Nhlongo added that the suspects then robbed him of his cell phone and bank card. The suspects drove towards a dumping site in Chloorkop and one suspect allegedly drove to withdraw money using the victim’s bank card.

Nhlongo said after withdrawing the money, the suspect returned to fetch his partner and the pair left the victim there [in Chloorkop].

A case of hijacking was opened.
