Christmas comes early at New Jerusalem

The New Jerusalem Children's Home children were treated to a performance by a group of Russian compatriots who sang South African and Russian musical hits among many other activities.

The Russian Embassy representatives, together with the volunteers from the St Sergius Russian Orthodox Church in Midrand, recently participated in a heartwarming Christmas celebration at the New Jerusalem Children’s Home.

The event on December 3 was a charity initiative aimed at bringing joy and happiness to the home’s children.

The Russian Embassy staff and the Russian Orthodox Church community members worked together to organise the event, ensuring that it would be a memorable experience for the children.

The volunteers put together Christmas gifts and sweet treats for the 120 young children in the home.

The children were also treated to a performance by a group of Russian compatriots who sang South African and Russian musical hits.

The Russian Embassy staff and the Russian Orthodox church community members visited New Jerusalem Children’s Home to kickstart the festive season.

The musical performance was a hit with the children, who sang and danced along with the performers.

In addition, a series of master classes were organised for the children about creating Christmas toys, including a large green paper dragon, which is a symbol of the 2024 year.

The children were thrilled to learn how to make their own Christmas decorations, and they had a lot of fun creating the dragon together.

The Russian community has been supporting the New Jerusalem Children’s Home since 2018, and they plan to continue doing it. St Sergius Russian Orthodox Church is committed to assisting the home, and the volunteers are always on the lookout for new ways to bring happiness and joy to the children.
